Our first blog...

So, I'm combining my two confusing blogs, and email blogging that I have done...to make it a little more comprehendable.

Blog #1:
Hey there! My name is Lauren Anderson and I come from the land of steak and the Cornhuskers. That's right, the home of Marlon Brando, Malcom X, Johnny Carson, Willa Cather, Warren Buffet, and President Gerald Ford. The state where you can find the College World Series, the Henry Doorly zoo, Car-Henge, and the largest porch swing in the world. The place where Kool-Aid, the Reuben sandwich, and the 911 system were invented. By now you've probably guessed it, I'm from Nebraska. : ) (I told you I know a ton of completely useless facts!) I am a freshman Pre-Major, at the moment, thinking about International Communications and Spanish. In addition to the occasional poem, thank you note, and email, much of my writing happens on the addicting website Facebook or on my phone. Loving texting and being in touch with everyone at once can be overwhelming...what happened to a good old-fashioned phone call? That was actually one of my resolutions this year...pick up the phone more often, don't text as much. Besides texting, emails and Facebook, I feel that my writing has the potential to be pretty strong, but I don't always give it the chance. Through this course, I hope to become more comfortable and confident with my writing. I also hope that it will be stronger after this semester.

If I had the time, I would love to be able to sit down and write letters to everyone I know. Who doesn't love writing and receiving snail mail? I have always enjoyed writing poetry and journaling. Although I don't necessarily follow any poetic rules, I love jotting down my thoughts in a way that can express them better than a regular journal entry. Along with poems, I enjoy writing autobiographies because I feel that I can't really make a mistake with the content. After all, I am an expert on me. Also, I like writing narrative essays because I enjoy reading them. To me, papers should sound like a conversation or at least be personal, otherwise, the reader/listener could quickly loose interest. You know what I mean?

The most difficult aspect of writing, for me, is the conclusion. I always find it hard to summarize something that I just finished explaining in so much detail. My conclusions aren't as strong as my paper and although necessary, I find that mine sometimes take away from the paper and seem like I write them to take up space. I am realizing that that's another thing that I hope to improve through this class. : )

Now that you've heard me/read my description of myself, I'll leave you with a few more random facts...Arbor Day was founded in Nebraska, Nebraska literally means "flat water," we are the only state that has a Unicameral legislature, and SPAM is produced about an hour away from my house.

Have a fantasic week!

I have read, understand and agree to the terms in the course syllabus, and am looking forward to a great semester.
