Blog #2

I believe that I can learn to write well simply because I believe in myself. Believing in oneself can cause great things to happen. Believing that you will be the one to change the world could set you on a path to find a cure for HIV/AIDS. When we have faith, there is no limit to what we can accomplish.

Throughout high school, I was involved in swimming and show choir; both are activities that take up oodles of time. One piece of advice that someone threw at me in one of those events, between all of the complaints that I smelled of chlorine : ) was: Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect. So those sprints that we practice in the pool, if you only do them half-heartedly, you won't improve your times at the meets. The same thing goes for show choir, if you never rehearse full out, doing all the dance moves, singing all the notes, and making all the obnoxious facials, you won't be prepared to perform at capacity when called to.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I believe that I can learn to write well if I am given the tools and opportunities to do so. Giving someone a pen and paper and telling them to write a 10 page composition on rabbits doesn't do anything if they know nothing about writing compositions. But if someone gives you the same assignment but tells you that they will give you a guideline of how a good composition could be put together, the assignment all of a sudden becomes attemptable.

Our first blog...

So, I'm combining my two confusing blogs, and email blogging that I have done...to make it a little more comprehendable.

Blog #1:
Hey there! My name is Lauren Anderson and I come from the land of steak and the Cornhuskers. That's right, the home of Marlon Brando, Malcom X, Johnny Carson, Willa Cather, Warren Buffet, and President Gerald Ford. The state where you can find the College World Series, the Henry Doorly zoo, Car-Henge, and the largest porch swing in the world. The place where Kool-Aid, the Reuben sandwich, and the 911 system were invented. By now you've probably guessed it, I'm from Nebraska. : ) (I told you I know a ton of completely useless facts!) I am a freshman Pre-Major, at the moment, thinking about International Communications and Spanish. In addition to the occasional poem, thank you note, and email, much of my writing happens on the addicting website Facebook or on my phone. Loving texting and being in touch with everyone at once can be overwhelming...what happened to a good old-fashioned phone call? That was actually one of my resolutions this year...pick up the phone more often, don't text as much. Besides texting, emails and Facebook, I feel that my writing has the potential to be pretty strong, but I don't always give it the chance. Through this course, I hope to become more comfortable and confident with my writing. I also hope that it will be stronger after this semester.

If I had the time, I would love to be able to sit down and write letters to everyone I know. Who doesn't love writing and receiving snail mail? I have always enjoyed writing poetry and journaling. Although I don't necessarily follow any poetic rules, I love jotting down my thoughts in a way that can express them better than a regular journal entry. Along with poems, I enjoy writing autobiographies because I feel that I can't really make a mistake with the content. After all, I am an expert on me. Also, I like writing narrative essays because I enjoy reading them. To me, papers should sound like a conversation or at least be personal, otherwise, the reader/listener could quickly loose interest. You know what I mean?

The most difficult aspect of writing, for me, is the conclusion. I always find it hard to summarize something that I just finished explaining in so much detail. My conclusions aren't as strong as my paper and although necessary, I find that mine sometimes take away from the paper and seem like I write them to take up space. I am realizing that that's another thing that I hope to improve through this class. : )

Now that you've heard me/read my description of myself, I'll leave you with a few more random facts...Arbor Day was founded in Nebraska, Nebraska literally means "flat water," we are the only state that has a Unicameral legislature, and SPAM is produced about an hour away from my house.

Have a fantasic week!

I have read, understand and agree to the terms in the course syllabus, and am looking forward to a great semester.

The Evolution of Gaming Systems...?

Alright...so I'm about to give up on the robots that blogger blames for spamming my blog.

So...I have always wondered why boys find video games so fascinating. For my topic, I want to learn about the evolution of the gaming system. Yesterday I did a quick google search and found that Nintendo in fact, wasn't the first gaming system. A system called Odessy was--and you could see 3 dots on the screen, or something like that...and now today with X-BOX 360 and PS3, one can play with other people around the world, see lifelike figures on the tv and the games are uber-interactive!--It's so interesting!

I think it will be the right size, like I said, I googled it and came up with a ton of responses!
Many things have been said about it...it is a boy phenonemon.?
I'm not sure if it will prompt other questions, but I'll keep thinking : )
I think it will matter to a great many people--maybe we can get a glimpse into the world of gaming and maybe see what so many people find entrancing about it. Why someone would want to spend all day playing video games...minus Guitar Hero (which I admit, I played late into the night over Christmas break!!) Is beyond me! Well, maybe we will include Guitar Hero!

I think I am interested in this topic because it has such a big audience and people are so captivated/addicted by/to it. I always wondered why...When my brother was in the basement playing Halo, I was always trying to be productive or read. I never understood why the gaming system was so intreguing. And what are they doing to improve the systems each time they come out with a new edition?

Blogger officially hates me.

Yes, that's right. They won't let me view my other blog so I can't even switch my blogs over to this one!

Well...let us pray that this blog doesn't fall under the category of a "spam blog"!!!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend:)
